On Friday, 3rd August, Cornwall U14 Girls played the annual match against the Cornwall U12 Boys on a hot and sunny day at Carlyon Bay Golf Club.
The team consisted of 10 players with 6 playing individual match play and 4 girls and 5 boys playing a stableford competition.
Maisie Drewett, Captain, led the way with a 4&3 win over Hugo Watson followed by Polly Gammon with another good win against Harry Richards by 3&2. Maddie Watson played well in a very close match with Harry Drewett which finished all square. Next up was Lizzie Nile with another good win for the girls by 3&2 against Thomas Miller. Sophia Hallett played extremely well going 5 up after 6 against Jack Welch but despite Jack winning the next 3 holes Sophia nearly holed her tee shot on the 11th and finished the match with a 4&3 win. The final match saw Ella Grace Crocker against Wilf Gammon which proved to be a very close match finishing on the 18th with Wilf 1 up. So the final result a WIN for the GIRLS 4.5 to 1.5.
The stableford event followed the match with Daisy Lane and her partner playing 18 holes. Charlotte Jenkin, Jessica Prior and Isla Coombes, who are still working through the Golf Access programme towards a handicap, stepped up to play off the Ladies red tees. Charlotte scored a brilliant 21 points on 9 holes and Isla a very good 18 points but with the best 4 boys amassing 102 points they were too strong on the day and won the stableford competition.
All the players enjoyed a meal after the golf with much chat and laughter building new friendships and a team spirit to be reckoned with in the future.
Well done girls and thank you to Dave Watson and Carlyon Bay Golf Club for a great day.
