Sunday 29th July - Truro Golf Club
Great 5 1/2 / 3 1/2 win over Devon
The forecast was terrible and at 8 a.m. things were not looking too promising weather-wise. With the ground so hard after the heatwave the water was just sitting on the surface. However we decided to set off and whilst conditions were very wet for the morning foursomes things brightened up considerably as the day went on and the course held up very well.
Cornwall got off to a good start in the foursomes matches this morning with a 3 & 2 win for Cath Hopkins and Annie Lobb, and a 3 & 2 win for Angie Chapman and Vicky Lee Comyn whilst the 2nd match saw Devon get the better of Caroline Hume-Kendall and Kira Barnes 4 & 3.
Cornwall won the first three singles matches in the afternoon, Annie and Angie both winning 2 & 1 and Steph Curnoe winning 3 & 2, giving us the points we needed for overall victory. Vicky was defeated 4 & 2 and Caroline 4 & 3 before the afternoon was rounded off by Cath Hopkins halving her match.
This means that the team have now qualified for the regional final against the winner of Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, who have yet to conclude their matches, at Taunton and Pickeridge at the end of September.
Thanks to those who came to support the team and a big thank you to Truro GC for hosting the match and looking after us all so well!
