- Delegates had been asked at previous meeting to consult with clubs as to any changes to be made to the League Play Off matches. West Cornwall had sent their views as their delegate was unable to attend. They thought that it could be played over 2 weekends, have reduced team size, maybe even a different format and also were not sure about the fairness of the lower division having the potential to be drawn against the top division. There was a discussion amongst the delegates resulting in a proposal being put forward that the format will be changed to 12 holes semi-finals, 18 hole final and a 12 holes play-off for 3rd and 4th The matches will also be intermingled.
This was voted on and passed unanimously.
- Mini League. Jenny reported that despite emails to clubs to try and drum up support for the Mini League this year there are only two clubs in it, which makes it no longer a league and more of a competitive friendly. If here are any clubs wishing to join the mini league next year please let us know. It would be a shame to let it drift away.
- Fixtures for 2019.
- Officers Reports:
- County Captain:
Since the last Delegates meeting we have had a Foursomes match @ St Enodoc v u-18 Boys which we lost 3-1. However a good opportunity to look at pairings and experience playing St Enodoc. Unfortunately Staffordshire were unable to be at Trevose this year, but Trevose kindly allowed us to have a practice match.
Challenging weather conditions prior to The County Championships at Launceston meant the pressure was on Graeme Gallimore and his team in the preparation of the course. They did a marvellous job. It was an excellent Championship with a high quality field.
We were treated to an excellent final which went to the 36th Hole. Well done Megan Giles our County Champion.
I then announced the 1st team, I had selected to take part in ICMW, which takes place @ St Enodoc Golf Club from July 2nd - 6th
We have had 2 get togethers @ St Enodoc in preparation.
The players selected have been given courtesy @ St Enodoc, so hopefully the team will be ready to take on the challenges of the other Counties and that we achieve the aim of getting to the National Finals which will be at RND in September
- County Vice Captain:
Vicki told the delegates that the 2nd team had started their season by playing the Senior County Ladies at Truro GC in April. The match consisted of four foursomes and resulted in 2.5 to 1.5 win for the 2nd team, a repeat of last year’s score. The match was enjoyed by all and a nice fixture to start the year with.
Our 1st inter-county match resulted in a superb win against Somerset at Weston Super Mare. The team was Cath Hopkins, Penny Cartwright and Annie Lobb, all part of last year’s second team along with Angie Chapman, Steph Curnoe, Caroline Hume- Kendall and Vicky Lee Comyn all of whom were making their first appearance for the County.
After an early deluge and rain for the first few holes, the weather was bright and breezy for the remainder of the day. We won 2 of the 3 matches in the morning foursomes and followed by winning 3 of the 6 singles with the final result a 5-4 win for Cornwall. Well done to all th players, it was especially pleasing to start our campaign with our new look team with an away win.
Our next match will be against Devon on 29 th July at Truro Golf Club and as Devon have also beaten Somerset the winner of that match will play the regional final against the overall winner from Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire at the end of September.
Vicky has also been attending first team training at St Enodoc and is looking forward to the Inter County Match week there at the start of July.
- County Treasurer:
We currently have £29,962 in the bank an increase of £2000 from this time last year, but we have received £2000 from England Golf to assist with the organisation of County Week, so everything seems to be on track. I am expecting further income on quarter day from the CGU as they are collecting our subscriptions with the new software.
£604 has been received from raffles so far this year and I thank everyone for their support, this is an important addition to our income. We have paid £2.040 for new team jackets and I think you will agree that they are very smart and very serviceable. Team members are contributing to the cost.
- County Secretary:
Jenny said that everything seemed to be going along smoothly. The Counties results on Howdidido are now back under the name of Cornwall Ladies County Golf Association. This will be something of a relief for Elgin golf club who must have been wondering who we all were.
County Vouchers are sent out by Margaret Swayne so if you can send your requests directly to her it will speed things up. I attended the World handicap meeting a St Mellion last month and I’m sure Mary will be keeping us all well informed when the changeover happens.
We haven’t had any further meeting with the CGU about a possible merger of the two associations. We had a few near misses with snow and cancellations, but the CGU have agreed in principle to the merger as have we. There are only half a dozen counties merged so far, it’s a slow process. I will be fixing the venues for the next round of the Gammon and letting the contact person know ASAP
- Competition Secretary:
In Jacquie absence Jenny read out the report
Firstly apologies for not attending today’s meeting, but I have a family wedding this August and my presence has been requested by my future daughter – in – law.
County Mixed Greensomes. Held at Trevose in March we were lucky with the weather. 67 pairs from 19 clubs played with Mo Hammond (Falmouth) and Paul Collins (Tehidy) winning with 42 points.
County Championships: These were held at Launceston in April. Emily Toy won the Scratch Cup with a course record breaking , albeit with Preferred Lies, of 68 and Megan Giles became our County Champion in an exciting final against Georgia Price on Sunday.
Division 2 Spring Meeting: We were welcomed to Newquay for this event with Jane Lewis (Cape Cornwall) winning the Clerk Cup with 33 points.Division 1 Spring Meeting: Perranporth welcomed us with brilliant sunshine and surprisingly, no wind. Jan Sargeant (Perranporth) won the Scratch Cup with a gross 80 and Caroline Hume-Kendall (St Enodoc) won the handicap Prize with a net 72.
- Junior Organiser:
Junior U18 Girl’s.
Sue Philips gave this report. This winter’s Development Coaching has now finished and my thanks go to Mullion, Carlyon Bay and Perranporth for allowing us the use of their facilities. This year Katie Rule’s focus was taking the girls through a golfing journey from tee to green with each session concentrating on a different aspect of their golf and then applying that to on the course
Unfortunately, due to adverse weather we had earlier in the year, our home friendly match against Devon Girls had to be postponed but we are hoping to rearrange this for September. We did manage to play our away match in Tavistock last week where, due to unavailability’s, we only fielded a team of 6 young girls lead by our Junior Captain Laura Andrew.
Unfortunately we lost 3.5 to 0.5 though our girls put the Devon team under pressure throughout with all matches getting past the 16th. These girls are going to develop into a promising squad over the next few years. Our Under 15 Championships and Future Championship was held at Truro last month. Masie Drewett (Falmouth) winning with a gross 84. Maddie Watson(Carlyon Bay) won the Nett Salver with a 7 under 61 off her 24 h/cp.
The Futures Championship was run as a 9 hole Golf Access competition and we had 6 young girls competing. Winner was Charlotte Jenkin (West Cornwall)
Unfortunately, due to the unavailability of some of the lower handicap girls I have been unable to form a squad and we have decided to pull out of this year’s SW Inter Counties Tournament. Disappointing but hopefully with the continued development of our younger squad, we will be in a better position next year.
Coming up on the 17th June, our Junior Championship is being held at Perranporth Golf Club and over the Summer months, the order of merit will continue running alongside all the Junior Opens.
- County Captain:
Jill Jones (Carlyon Bay) raised the question of practice rounds for Gammon matches. Some of the Clubs had felt that there was a fixed rate been fixed for practice rounds prior to the Gammon matches. There is no fixed price. It is up to clubs to decide this, some clubs have made an arrangement between themselves but no blanket price for everywhere. This is normally done by Captains/?? negotiating a price, maybe a County card rate without the card.
Lorna Parfitt (Newquay) asked if a more comprehensive list of results be published.
Pat Crowsen (Killiow) asked if more clubs would consider playing League Matches on weekend dates or even less players in a team. Clubs to take this back and look at it.
here being no more AOB the meeting was closed at 12.45
The next meeting will be held at Merlin Golf Club on 17/10/ 2018 at 11.
